Now you have to adjust to a lifestyle of women wanting you and men wanting to be you.
It's a curse but we bear it well.

I wore one yesterday in celebration of the repeal of the act that was already mentioned. My wife and I were in Target when I got accosted by a group of young ladies who thought it was the sexiest thing they had seen in a long time, all of whom wanted pictures with me. Enjoy yourself.

Amen! My recent wedding was my first public kilting, and I am hooked also--simply cannot stop wearing it. My 5 year old son feels the same...his black watch will disintegrate before it's outgrown!
Congrats on your new lifelong interest!

So I had my first big event kilted tonight, my twenty-first birthday party (my actual birthday is Monday, but the party was tonight). My band played, and they all asked me to dress as I did to all our shows from now on. They were curious to see how I would dress tonight (I'm normally a bit, if you will, conspicuous), and all agreed that it was absolutely the ne plus ultra. My oldest friend and his family were thrilled; they thought it was so me, and a breath of fresh air. Even my family couldn't deny that it looked good.
One gentleman asked me what tartan it was, and everyone knew me well enough to not ask The Question. A good night.
Pictures tomorrow, I promise. (My godmother promised she had some good ones, and she's sending them to me on the morrow.) I'm already planning my next kilt. Totally converted, me.

If I've done this right, a picture should be showing up underneath this. I know, I know; white tie is simply not comme il faut with a kilt, but it's all I had. Jabot and cuffs soon enow (v. inf.). Not a great picture, either, but it certainly is a start. The hosen are red with pattern'd tops (Beretta, of all places!), the waistcoat was purple, which I had to sew to look like that (it's a casual waistcoat, not a formal one), white tie and formal shirt.
I'm completely addicted. I've worn the kilt all day, every day since I got it, save for one four hour period Friday night with some breeks (the memory of which still pains me — oh! the humanity!), through wind (staying modest), car rides (staying pleated), parties, lazing about the house, a gig, a family dinner and a dinner party (at which my musical mentor, a big, strapping Ferguson, asked where he could get one). And which is more, there are no signs of slowing down, and, knowing me, nor shall there ever be. I was to the kilt born.
Another one would seem to be in order, if not two. One will be a nice one, I'm guessing a Newsome box-pleated in Ulster red or a Keltoi box-pleated in the Leatherneck (in honor of my dear, dear —and very Norse-Gael in Ulster— grandfather's service), and the other, since I'm not going to last through the middle of October with only one...any thoughts? Another Stillwater? Is acrylic really that unlike wool? (I got a "heavyweight" Stillwater, not the standard or either economy model.) And if it is, are there any decent off-the-rack (or perhaps quickly tailored; three, four weeks) polyviscose models the Rabble can recommend?
