Stillwater Kilts (a vendor here on XMarks) has a MacDonald Tartan kilt very reasonably priced at $80.
Is your family any relation to the PEI Murchison's (Murchison is a sept of clan MacDonald I believe) and I am a decendant of Simon Murchinson's family. Simon was the lighthouse keeper at Point Prim from 1867–1870.

Stop into the games in Eldon this summer. You can check out the vendors.

If you're game, the Antigonish Highland Games take place this weekend and since the Scotdance Canada Championships have just finished up at St.FX the vendors from that event will most likely be moving onto the Games, meaning that there will be more vendors at the Games than usual. Most if not all these vendors carry new and used kilts, most are suitable for civilians.
Also, try the gift shop at the College of Piping in Summerside. http://www.collegeofpiping.com/
Or, stop in Pictou as there are a few shops there that carry highland gear. As you know, the Hector landed there in 1773 and the Hector has it's own registered tartan. The Hector Festival takes place in August and is always good fun. http://www.townofpictou.ca/festivals_-26_events.html
