This is the same method that I use also. It is cheaper than a new piece of luggage, and I've sucessfully carried two kilts in this manner before. Just remember to take your time and keep the pleats as straight and un-rumpled as possible. As Matt said allow your kilt to hang for a bit once you reach your destination to allow the pleats to relax and release any small wrinkles that might have developed.

Thank you Father Bill. Some sage advise there. I was almost ready to raid her nylon drawer. After your comment an some deep thought about this I decide to ask her if I could cut up a new pair. Your ability to see into the future is amazing. Thank you for saving me.

I store my kilts on hangers, in king size pillow covers that zipper closed and have a hole cut in the top seam for the hanger hook. (A tip from someone on this forum.) Then, if I am driving to my destination, I simply lay the kilts, still on hangers and in the zippered pillow cover, on top of the rest of my luggage. No wrinkles, and if the kilts fall off the hangers, they are still contained in the pillow cover.

If I were to put a kilt in a suitcase, rolled or flat, I would put it in a plastic bag. Clothes in plastic seem to wrinkle less since they don't stick to other clothes in the suitcase. I always leave my suits in cleaner bags when I travel, and they rarely wrinkle.

And could you imagine what would happen if she were still IN them????????

Along the same lines as the yoga mat bag, I've had success using the stuff sack from my Thermarest sleeping pad. (http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___49014

My wife's nylons weren't big enough in diameter.
