I took the old web site down last night with the goal of uploading the new site before I went to bed. Things progressed a little slower than anticipated and I had some unforeseen (though not insurmountable) problems with the upload. Round about 11:30pm I decided sleep was rather imperative, so I put the work on hold for the night.

I'm attempting to upload everything again this morning as we speak. Should be soon now!

    It's ALIVE!

Ok, guys, the new gift shop site is now live!

    http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/

(If you are getting the old site still, or an error message, try refreshing your browser. If that still doesn't work wait a while and try again, it just went live and may take some time to propagate to your servers).

I am certain there are going to be some bugs, typos, and other little errors to fix. I'll be looking for those, but if you notice anything that needs fixing, such as broken links or missing images, etc., please let me know.

Also, there are one or two sections of the web site where I am still waiting on content to complete them. One example is the Ferguson Britt sporran section; I'm still waiting on images to complete the fur gallery. But other than a couple of things like that, the site is complete.

I hope the new site will be easier to navigate and order from. I'll be highlighting a few specific changes and new features in their own threads.

    Enjoy!

A very clean look. Easy to find items. In fact, I found a few items I didn't know you had.

What is the tartan on the page background?

I did find a few minor bugs. I'll PM to you.

Can I ask a favor of those reporting bugs to me? Can you please post them to this thread rather than PM me?

Reason is that I'm sure many of you will no doubt notice the same bugs and to keep me from getting two dozen PMs reporting the same problem, if you post it publicly here others can know that bug has already been reported. I'll keep checking this thread periodically today.

I've already noticed several bugs that seem to have crept in during the upload process that did not appear in the design before I uploaded the pages. For example, several of the individual pages seem to be missing the white background behind the text. I'm already aware of this problem, and I'm going through the site one page at a time to identify the problem pages and fix them. So be patient.

    Thanks!

Hi Matt. Nice work one the site. There are however two things that jump out at me:

    1. No Gift Shop "Home" button. When you enter the shop from the museum home page you get the welcome screen. Once you leave that screen for a product page there seems to be no way to return without using either the back button or the browser history. I would recommend you add another selection at the top of your left hand gift shop menu (just above the 'Men's Highland Dress' selection) labeled 'Welcome!' or some such. It rounds out the site and is just a good rule of thumb for each section (or sub-site) to do this.

    2. On a non-highdef monitor the text in the center column of the welcome page is a bit hard to read. It jars the eyes and is not crisp. That's using either Safari or Firefox. The other pages do not seem to do that. On my iPad which does have a high definition screen I do not see a problem. My monitor is a decent 20 inch flat panel but it's just not high definition.

Hope your having a good day.

    Dee,

Thanks for the input. The lack of a "home" button is something I also noticed after the site went live. I can't blame anyone but myself for that oversight! I'll get that remedied in the near future.

Not sure why you would have a hard time reading the text on the welcome page but not the other pages, as the font and size should be the same, 10pt Arial. I'll take a look though and see if I'm missing something...

Great site, Matt. I recommend that you either trim down or split your paragraphs into no more than about 5 or 6 lines apiece.

Love the new layout, but did notice one issue so far. When I tried to look at the full mask sporran selection the link didn't open.
