    I agree, unless one is seeking the 'tone on tone' look (which certainly has it's place) matching hose color with the predominant color in the kilt is not desirable if one is looking for visual 'pop'. A general rule of thumb I follow that promotes 'pop' AND maintains visual balance is to use 'complimentary colors', a.k.a. color opposites on the color wheel (red - green, blue - orange, etc.).     I also wear lovat blue hose with my MacQueen kilt and a lovat blue jacket (incidentally, I only got them to make my wife happy as she prefers a more "matchy" look).

    My mustard hose are still my favorites, but the blue hose with yellow garters do look quite good as well.
