To quote Col.Potter from MASH:
"Fig Newtons and Scotch, great if you dunk them!"
I've tried. - and they're not!

Re: Scotch and snack foods
For some reason when I drink I CRAVE home buttered popcorn. It's my go-to snack when I'm not doing a serious dram tasting.

Re: Scotch and snack foods
My stomache is not crazy about mixing sweets with alcoholic beverages, with the exception of scotch and Fig Newtons. But, I like the peaty, kelpy island malts with my Newtons. BTW, I don't do that often. I believe someone has posted such a pairing on this forum before.
I do like Brian's idea of pairing of oatmeal cookies with scotch.

Chewse, while all these sound like good advise, I am going to keep it simple for the game tonight. While cheering on the Rangers, I hope to refresh myself with quality Belhaven ale, as a personal gesture against Budlight beer (for those that don't know, the home of the apposing team, the Cardinals, is Busch Stadium).

Re: Scotch and snack foods
Cheese goes well with scotch, specifically a nice Blue Stilton. Really, any strong-flavored cheese will do I suppose, but Stilton really brings out the notes in the scotch.

Re: Scotch and snack foods
My favorite snack with a single malt is shortbread.
I like salty snacks over others but for some reason not with Scotch. I've also had cheese with Scotch (usually at a reception) but normally I prefer cheese (and chocolate) with wine.

Frankly, if you are going to drink a beer to celebrate Texas, try Shiner bock!

My wife and I are on the grounds committee for the Stone Mountain Highland Games. Everyday at the end of setup, Pecan Sandies are a REQUIREMENT whenever the scotch is pulled out.

Re: Scotch and snack foods
I generally drink scotch by itself either neat or on the rocks. But, more than occasionally I'll drink a small (~ 4 oz.) glass of wine-finished (usually port or sherry) scotch on the rocks with my dinner.
Scotch: It's not just for breakfast anymore.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.
