How far up the legs do you think they should be tied? I only tie mine just above my ankle (3-4 inches at most above the top of the shoe at the ankle), and it's been suggested by some - here and elsewhere - that even that's too high.
To the OP, great ingenuity, and it goes well with the rest of your ensemble.

Heck, I don't know but I watched a video (by one of the kilt shops) showing how to tie them several ways, one "short" just above the ankle and another long higher up the calf. I've seen fellows wearing them tied quite high at highland games. But what do I know, I wear buckled or bowed slip-ons -- too lazy to tie shoes
Using scarves as moggans was EXACTLY what I did when I was gathering my first kit for a Ren Fest. I used the thongs from a pair of Medieval Moccasins to keep them up. I think it's still a good idea. Good for you.
Not to be all cliche, but that's what Mel Gibson wore in Braveheart around his legs too. You can really notice it at the end when he's being racked in the torture scene.
These scarves were a dark blue/green and black and I also got two that were black and a dark bronze stripes.
I've been noticing a lot of old pictures in the vintage photos thread where zone socks have a criss-cross of thin lines ... I wonder if they are visually meant to appear like how cords would go up and cross like I'm wearing (just a guess ... I could be wrong)
