You can also order a custom-designed and completely made to order waistcoat here:
http://shirtsyourway.org/
Loads of fabric options, and the Scottish Tartans Museum gets a kick-back from your order. Woot!

Re: Soliciting waistcoat ideas
I'm thinking of this one, which I found on Ebay. I think the gold would accent the green jacket nicely and pick up the gold line in my kilt. I'd ditch the tie.

Re: Soliciting waistcoat ideas
And if your tartan is a stock tartan you could go this route:

There are a few vendors out there who offer tartan waistcoats on the bias, or regular like mine. I must admit though, I am getting some good ideas from following this thread!
Best of luck!

[QUOTE=piperdbh;1035964]Here are some shots of Yours Truly, showing various waistcoat/kit combinations:

dbh,
Not to hijack the thread, but I really like your kilt jacket. It's a very simple design. I know you're handy with a needle and thread, is it a conversion or one you made yourself?
Thanks,
Remy

It's a jacket that I got at a thrift shop, then cut down. There are no epaulettes, no cuffs, no reshaped pocket flaps, and the outer pockets are now non-fucntional, since the jacket had to be shortened.

Great looks all. I would think any brown tweed vest would look great with that jacket and kilt...

Re: Soliciting waistcoat ideas
Thanks! My tartan is special order for weights over 10 oz., though that's heavy enough for a waistcoat. I like the look of bias cut waistcoats ok, but I think I want to go with something simpler.

Bob, I know that Lochcarron stocks your tartan in 10 oz. They also stock a range of coordinating solids in 10 oz material. You could approach your favored Highland dress retailer and have them order a waistcoat for you made from one of Lochcarron's solid color options, chosen to tone with one of the colors of your tartan.
