Re: Is tweed your speed?
I was in contact with the folks at Bookster about a month ago. They are fixin' (that's Southern talk, y'all) to add an Argyle jacket and waistcoat to their line of standard offerings. They are waiting on a pattern and prototype to add the photo to the website.

Re: Is tweed your speed?
They do have some nice offerings Tim, but I'm not sure whether or not they make Highland wear. I came across them last year and sent a couple of inquiring emails but never heard back from them. I assumed they weren't interested.
I'm surprised to hear that - I bought a three piece suit from them and they were excellent from start to finish.
I know they keep prices down by only offering a few particular styles and then making in your size (i.e. more "made to measure" than "bespoke"). As such I imagine if you simply wanted a jacket and waistcoat extra short to wear with a kilt then that wouldn't be a particular problem whereas if you wanted something with all the gubbins then it probably wouldn't fit into their business model.
I've often thought that they could make a killing by offering relatively plain tweed jackets cut short for kilts and am pleased to see that they have started a (small) highland section in their vintage arm (bookster1uk).

They do make kilt jackets and waistcoats. They have fantastic tweeds and have been very helpful to me in the past. I will be buying from them again soon.

WANT!

(This would make an awesome tweed for a jacket to go with a weathered tartan kilt!)

I don't want to speak for Matt, but if you send us a link to a particular tweed that you like, I can try to source the cloth for you. I've been known to pull off the occasional minor miracle with custom cloth.

Sorry for the links but I cant get them to right click "copy image" "paste" to here. If someone else could provide me some education on the process I would appreciate it.
Cheers,
Brooke
They do not make Highland attire items, specifically jackets and waistcoats - at least that is what they told me. However, one could easily purchase the tweed material and send it off to your tailor! I had inquired with them a couple of years ago - great website, and even greater tweeds! I love them all - a kilt jacket and waistcoat in all of them, I say!

Re: Is tweed your speed? even cheaper Bookster...
I have bought from Bookster. Now and then they will have a garment that either didn't work out for the original buyer or that they used for photo shoots. I have caught a couple of those on eBay and have ordered my own from them twice. As always, be generous when measuring. Taking in is easier than letting out.
Because of the nature of small-lot cloth production, it is possible to order items at different times that do not match perfectly, such as a jacket bought one year and trousers bought the next. The variation is subtle, though, and not displeasing.
I have run into some of their tweed fabrics being offered in other places- there are only so many mills, after all. It may be that they get some of them from supply houses known throughout the tailoring community. I would love to get a highland jacket from them, but as nearly as I can tell, there is no definitive answer on whether or not they are doing them. In the meantime, ordering swatches and taking/ sending them to highland dress tailors might to be worthwhile.
