And I KNOW GGGP looks better in a kilt than I do, AND already has better throwing form than I do as well!

I have done a couple of runs in a kilt. One of the races, which had a huge number of participants, had several in kilts. Both were done more for fun than competition. There is a half marathon coming up and I am contemplating a kilt for that. It would be nice if weren't the only one.

I welcome the invitation though I doubt I will be posting much here (the dancers have their own forum after all.
I practice and have now performed with a demonstration team. This requires both a lot of leg strength and flexibility. This differs a bit from the explosive strength that I understand highland athletes work toward. Our leg extensions need power but most important is for them to appear effortless. To that end, besides stretching, I have decided that hiking and cycling will be the best way to build up my leg muscles.
I wish everyone here susccess in their regimes as they pursue their athletic goals.

That sounds interesting. I lift weights and hike for exercise and wear the kilt when I hike but don't really have training program for hiking. (I am hoping to get out to Joshua tree on the 21st for a couple of days of camping and hiking). I am dieting but if successful will actually have to buy a new kilt as both mine are bordering on to big now. My boys powerlift and although they sometimes wear the kilt to competitions they can not do it while competing. I haven't been on this particular forum much do wander in occasionally .

Dare I admit to kilted yoga as one of my primary training endeavors?

I'm very glad you have voiced this. I want to tell the rabble about my kilted paddling and saw this forum as the best place, but always felt a little like a usurper in doing so. If it's in the open that one certainly needn't be a highland athlete to post here then perhaps I can feel less out of place and others may also feel welcome. Any dancers care to weigh in?

I do Highland Games kilted, and I also train Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. However, I'm sure my Jiu-jitsu training partners are grateful that I'm not kilted....

As a former wrestler in high school and college, I'm definitely interested in how you train.

Is there crossover between your Jiu-Jitsu training and the Games?

Here's my current training plan:
Monday:
- Deadlifts
Wednesday:
- Bench
Friday:
- Squats
Saturday:
- Push Press
I do some assistance work in the weight room as well, but try to keep the assistance to around 3 sets 5-6 reps per exercise. I also try to get in short throwing practices sessions 2-4 days a week, and a big session on Sunday with the OC Highlanders if my weekend is free.
The Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is also 2-4 days/week, in the evenings Mon-Fri, when I can squeeze it in.
Its a lot, so I just treat this template as my target & I don't beat myself up too mad if I miss something.
