Plot 306540, here and fan of the Quarter Cask. The peat is a required taste and not for everyone. Need to be in the mood for it such as most things. Looking forward to one day making my way over to the distillery.

Re: Friends of Laphroaig
I realize I am commiting heresy here. But my favorite hot drink that really warms me up, is great for a cough or sore throat. Is good coffee with hazelnut coffee creamer and a little sugar with a touch of Talisker or Old Fettercairn for flavor. This warms and soothes everything going down and tastes awesome. Last night, dealing with a cold, I tried Laphroaig 10yr instead. It was great - hazelnutty with a smoky nose and taste. My throat calmed right down. I look at using singles this way as similar to using vanilla in a recipe. This is always a hit out camping in the evening. I have a 50 cup coffee pot and use good fresh decaf coffee so that we will all be able to sleep.
Side note on the Hazelnut creamer, I use Coffeemate brand as, to me, most of the others I've tried have a chemical or nasty or "wheres the hazelnut?" taste. If it doesnt taste good with out the scotch, try another brand. The scotch seems to intensify the native flavor of the creamer as will as adding smoke.

Re: Friends of Laphroaig
Had my plot since 2009 and have recommended Laphroaig to many others. Always a good go to bottle. Looking forward to making a visit to the distillery one of these days.

Friends of Laphroaig
I didn't even realise you could do this. In my excitement at getting on to the main business at hand (inserting straw to bottle!) I must have completely overlooked the leaflet... over the years... hundreds of times...

Re: Friends of Laphroaig
Really like Laphroaig when I want the whole peat bog. May need to use it up so that I can get a new one and my plot. My gotos, in order, are Old Fettercairn 10y, then the replacement (almost) - Fettercairn 1824 12y, Talisker 10 and Highland Park 12y. I have 22 different singles and a large map of Scotland mounted on a board. Come on over, I'll put them on the map and we will do a sampling tour. Been a while since I did this one but it's great fun and educational.

Re: Friends of Laphroaig
I've only just recently started to appreciate whisky (beyond doing shots of Jamieson in bars in my 20's), but Laphroaig 18 yr. has quickly become my favorite.

Re: Friends of Laphroaig
It may be that my limited palette, being weened on the "Glens" of the scotch world, can't help but not have the overwhelming sense that I am smelling and tasting a 'band aid' when I try Laphroaig 10 year old. Perhaps the 18 is better?
