Actually Randall Wallace, and yes allegedly a direct descendant of William Wallace. He is a writer of relative obscurity until his "romantic" work of fiction set in an extremely loosely historical context became the screenplay (also written by him) that Mel Gibson made into the movie, all entitled "Braveheart". His relation to Wm Wallace seems to have been a strong factor in adding to the romantic notions that the book is historic when it merely uses historic characters by name and historic locations by name in an otherwise fantasy of fiction. Randall Wallace also subsequently contributed to the screenplay and directed another movie made by Mel Gibson and in which he starred, the somewhat less fictional and more truly historic but still a bit fantasized "We Were Soldiers" based on a truly historical accounting of the first US units in battle in Vietnam in 1965, a docunovel by battle participants Hal Moore and Joe Galloway.

    Sorry for the threadjack.
