The pillow that I made :)

For the past few months, Ive been coming up with ideas for home decorations or crafts that would tie both my religion in with my heritage. All Islamic things tend to have an Arab/Desi look to them (lots of gold, arabic caligraphy, etc.) and while those things are beautiful, they really dont speak to me since I am not Arab or Indian/Pakistani. I decided to take Islamic symbols and words, write them using English letters or even translate them into Gaelic, and then put them on a Celtic looking background. That way, I can show off my religion AND my heritage instead of feeling like they have to be seperate!

This pillow was my first of many projects. I finished it in a day or so and I went to the store and found a "tartan" that matches the colors in my room and then put the Arabic word "Bismillah" on it which means "in the name of God". Bismillah is something we say before we eat, or drive, or pray...it just basically means that everything you do, you do for God. I decided to put it on my pillow

I hope you guys like it.

My next idea is to make a home decoration that has the crescent and star made out of celtic knots. I was thinking of doing it on a tapestry looking thing with celtic knots around the boarder and "God Bless This Home" written underneith it. Actually, whats really cool is that Islamic art and Celtic art look very similar. Check out some of these designs on mosques:
