faking it at the fairgrounds
our friends invited my wife and i to the new orleans fairgrounds for a sunday birthday. i decided to wear the slightly-damaged-sold at a huge discount wool kilt i bought from kiltznmore that just came in saturday. as a newbie, i do not have the flashes, garters, jackets... so i cut a shoelace in half and tied it underneath the hose to keep them from sagging. i safety pinned a suit vest (clearance rack post christmas) to make room for the sporran. since i only wear shoes for working out, i wore my doc martens (used, ebay). so, i was a german-american in a scottish national tartan kilt pretending to know what i was doing. lots of positive comments, and two pictures with strangers. best of all, my outfit drew attention to the party, which made the birthday girl feel extra special as other people stopped to talk to our table.
