    Re: Clan Cameron Gathering 1956

I have been perusing other related videos on the British Pathe' website, very nice! Oher newsreels include the Braemar Gathering, the Cowal Gathering, and various other videos of interest. Quite interesting to see.

http://backup.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=81851 - Great quote from this particular video... "Now when you think about Scotland, you must think of it as two separate countries, the Highlands and the Lowlands..." So very true! Also, keep a look out for the VAT 69, just brilliant! Definitely my favourite video thus far - what a trip this couple is on!

    Cheers,

Type in 'kilts' in the search box on the British Pathe' website, and you'll get a wonderful selection of videos relating to the kilt. I am quite fond of the one below - check out the MOD brass cantles!

The clans gather at Glenfinnan...just superb! It is wonderful to see past chiefs, such as Lochiel, and Lord George Murray - did you see the size of that white cockade worn during the 45' rising?! Wow!

His Majesty King George VI in Highland dress (and in uniform). His Majesty always wore it so well! In the first video, His Majesty's full-mask sporran made of mink, and the chap to his left (with beard and wearing a day plaid) wearing patterned top kilt hose - looks like a 'chessboard' style - brilliant! There is also a man behind the King wearing a kilt in what appears to be a rather large Macpherson hunting sett and a beautiful, full-mask sporran (the chap looks a bit like me, a wee bit eerie!) - good to see both! You can pick up more details when you look at the stills. If you look closely, you'll also see the use of day (blanket) plaids being worn over the left shoulder.
