    Re: Contemporary traditional funeral attire

Since I generally wear coloured shirts with my kilts, I feel a black shirt and black hose to be more appropriate for a funeral than, say, red.
But since I more than make up for the sombreness of the black shirt with my Mighty Men kilt and waistcoat, I look quite bright all the same. A red tie and red flashes seem appropriate, too.
When my son-in-law’s grandmother was buried, his father made a point of thanking me for wearing my tartan, since the old lady was proud of her Scottish descent (Crichton) and loved tartans and kilts.
    Regards,
    Mike

    Re: Contemporary traditional funeral attire

If it's any help - whether you're wearing your kilt or not - in Scotland it would be very very unusual not to wear a plain black tie to a funeral.

I've worn my black argyll with a Black Watch tartan kilt.
