Re: Jacket ideas, traditional, modern, or something else?
Hi rondo, hope your jacket idea works out. I thought I might bring up that it was suggested to me once a black corduroy argyle jacket with silk lapels and cuffs would make a very good evening or black tie jacket. You had mentioned the corduroy jacket back there. Perhaps other cuts of jackets in corduroy might work, as well.
Good luck.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Bugbear,
I've always thought of corduroy as a casual fabric. That would be my go to for a day wear jacket.

I could imagine this working if the corduroy was very fine wool with a high "wale" (# of ribs per inch). It would then be rather similar to velvet. Maybe trimmed with grosgain silk, which also has a ribbed texture? A cotton corduroy and/or one with a lower wale would just look too casual.

You might be interested to know that this doublet, which was made for the Duke of Windsor, was made of very thin wale corduroy, of silk.

Rondo,
If you are looking specifically for a corduroy kilt jacket, I do have a few corduroy cloth options listed here:

Matt,
Thanks for the link, those look grand. Not sure how I missed those before. What is the lead time for one of those jackets?

They are all made to measure, but usually it will be within your hands (or should I say on your body!) within 2 months.
