I have never carried a purse.
I have carried a briefcase when in business attire, diaper bag for many years with children in tow, and occasionally a backpack if I need to carry something that won't fit in jean's pockets.
I think there is a window of time in the teen years that one becomes accustomed to having a thing not attached to you that contains valuables.....but apparently I missed that window of opportunity decades ago.

The pattern mentioned above appears to be real easy.
Stiff backed gold velvet with satin flap, is what I was thinking....a pot of gold....to "protect" the *pot* of gold.
I believe it will be a nice accent to the gold in the Irish tartan.

Re: Girl question
On the pin - I've had real good luck drilling holes part way though the back of things and JB Welding (a metal epoxy) the posts (with the heads snipped off)in the holes. I even have a rather heavy metal 4 inch chrome plated brass cross that hasn't come apart in over a year. The tiny drill bits are hard to find in these sizes, I got a PC (printed circuit) board drill bit set on Amazon. I highly prefer post and clasp over the "safety pin" attachments as the pin lays totally flat to the fabric, is a lot less snag prone, is easyier to position and does a lot less damage to the fabric than the other attachments.
I like it so much that I have ground the "safety pins" off of kilt pins and put in posts. I clip the post tops off for two reasons - First Chrome to chrome dosent stick well. And the heads are too large for many of my pins. Epoxying is a lot cleaner with a hole - You just poke a drop of the (mixed) epoxy in the holes and push the posts in with needle nosed pliers and let it set to cure.
NOTE - I just copied this to the DIY section as I could not find this idea there yet.

JB weld....now you're talking!
Hmmmm....a motorcycle part kilt pin.
Ok, now I have to go "shopping" through parts at the shop.
Can I post pics here? If so, maybe I'll throw up a few options and get some opinions.

Little gear arrangements are very steampunk and look good on the kilt (IMHO). Something along these lines even echoes the look of a clan badge.

LOL Steam Punk, funny. Think I'm a tad old for all of that. Maybe not.
But, I did buy a top hat today. Went to Mens Warehouse looking for...well...a short jacket that was perhaps a rental....type deal. They all have tails, not what I wanted, and really, for the price they wanted, I'd just as soon go into the city and go buy the correct jacket.
May not wear it this weekend, but hey....for $37 OTD, who can turn down a black top hat, cane, and a pair of gloves. This event or another....still a good place to rest a pair of beer goggles.

Ossa would be even better, but I think they all are long rectangle shaped.
I believe the hodaka would be a better choice. It's much smaller than the ossa.

Them's fightin' words around here! Never gonna be too old for anything I darn well choose to do. Physical limitations are one thing but "growing up" is totally over-rated
