Re: St. Patrick's Day Commercial for Guiness Black something or other
Had to go full screen and pause to see it but you're sure right Rocky. That doesn't say much for the folks at Guinness if they didn't catch it either before giving the commercial producers the go ahead to broadcast it.
BOYCOTT GUINNESS!! They claim to be Celtic but don't know how to wear the kilt! BOYCOTT GUINNESS!!
....or, maybe not if you're thirsty.....but still...they SHOULD know....come on....
Or maybe they were just sampling the merchandise a lot before the shoot....
Or one more confirmation that kilts should be worn pleats to the front so they don't get wrinkled when sitting.

I think they turned it around so the pleats would spread out faster when he bent over.

I'm guessing they wanted to make the pleats take center stage in the shot, the look of someone bending from the front (apron roll) is almost as unflattering as seeing them bend from behind.
At least that's my guess.

Re: St. Patrick's Day Commercial for Guiness Black something or other
Just sent this message to Guinness:
To whom it may concern,
I saw your commercial for Guinness Black Lager with the gent wearing an Irish National Kilt. I have to tell you I find it very disrespectful and a sign of ignorance on you part because the kilt is on backwards(this is almost as bad as the Lager itself). The pleats should be worn in the back and not in the front.
I am of Scottish decent and Irish too, for that matter. I love to drink Guinness draught, but I may consider choosing another of my favorites in the future. Also I am a member of a large Scottish group of kilt wearers and they were as appalled as I.
I hope that someone in your marketing department can do some research in the future. It makes your company look bad.
Regards,
Mike

flying the flag upside down indicates an emergency--so, maybe wearing the kilt backwards is a warning that the black lager is as awful as ya'll say.

Re: St. Patrick's Day Commercial for Guiness Black something or other
I'd seen that a couple times on TV now, and it goes by fast enough that I didn't notice the backwards thing till now!
But as someone who calls the Ireland's National tartan his gang colors, and has his sense of humor intact, I just find it funny!
I'll be wearing that kilt (pleats in back!) on St.Patrick's day, and I will be drinking Guinness, but the stout, not the boring "girl Guinness" (roasted barley lager) in that ad.
off topic; The Guinness black lager isn't that bad, it's just not that great. It's marketed at the cold bottle domestic beer drinkers who're scared of stouts and porters. If you want to try a better IMO 'black lager' try Bohemian Black from Shiner.

Since we have so many bars here that boast about their huge selection of brews, I'll see if any of them have it over the weekend. You know how they get when you ask for something that they've never heard of...let's see if that stumps them.

Ask them for a Sierra Blanca Nut Brown too, you might get a great brown ale, but more likely a blank look!
