Re: Blue collar work kilted every day?

Ya, Old Hippie, I know what you mean. I didn't wear a kilt around the mulch machine; it doesn't work anymore, so I have to cut things up by hand now and I didn't even think of it. I also know what you mean about compost fixings and not wearing a kilt...
I did wear a kilt while working on ceramic hand building, but I had a good sized apron wrapped around me, and I never tried the wheel in a kilt. I know that could work, though from what other people have worn while throwing.

Since canvas is not an option, guess I really can't say much else.

Good luck, Thorina, hope it works out well.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

It's like anything else....I mean, you don't own just one pair of all occasional slacks. I'd imagine it's the same with kilts.

Re: Blue collar work kilted every day?

With regards to your pockets question, I use one of these.

It's roomy with an internal divider, making two seperate pockets (I find this useful seperating any coinage from scratching the screen on my phone), button-down flap, and straps and hooks on the outside to attach additional items (such as a water canteen).

I've adapted mine to my own preferences by removing the centre attachment strap (overkill, plus don't want to mark my belt) and dyed it black. I wear it on my right hip. It's an excellent piece of kit. I'll post photos of it in action, if you're interested.

The article has better pics than the website did.
Not really interested in a big canvas skirt with giant pockets.
Good idea, though. Just wouldn't do it for me, I don't think.
Always cool to see different options and people's ideas.

Re: Blue collar work kilted every day?

I intend on trying it myself. I am trying to patiently await the arrival of a pv 8yd kingussie in MacLeod of Harris as well as a sporran.
As for blue collar, I guess you could say the physical part is. I'm a professional urban trapper so there is alot of ladder works with squirrels and bats but I also do quite a bit of ground work with moles, fox/coyote and beaver. Of course I can not go regimental with the ladders plus need to be able to strip down to don chest waders.
My only real concern is attic and crawlspace inspections since it's hard enough on my arthritic knees in pants.

Or any similar. Worth every penny. If you zip tie them to a rail, you can pressure wash them very well.
