Ya i had to do the same thing when i was in school they tried to have me removed from school by the security for wearing my Utilikilt but lucky for me one of the security guards was of Scottish decent and argued my side along with me. I can't believe that Principal Jim Greenwald had said men should dress like men at the prom. In my opinion you can't get much more manly than a kilt.

So glad I got out of school 30 years ago, all these restictive and seemingly arbitrary dress codes, rules of conduct, etc. would have made 'highscool me' a criminal today.

Their thinking is that this is a skirt and therefore feminine. The excuse of this being nontraditional is ludicrous there have been many a kilt worn at formal White House events, and nobody would dare to ban it at any State Event in the world as nontraditional or not formal enough or costumey!
The reports I read referred to it as a "skirt" or dress or frock I agree with what Biblemonkey on this, that was the reason given by the school board for denying him. To me it came across a bit homophobic on the part of Principal Greenwald saying that "men should dress as men at prom." Not that this is applicable to this young man by any means, but WOW! not manly enough? A kilt? Really? "The Finest Regiment In the World" would take exception to that! All I can say for this young man is William you did us proud...AN GORDANACH!

The administrations want all kids to be drones and not make problems by "sticking out". In 1970, at my senior prom, there was an uproar when two girls came as a couple. They were quickly hustled out and taken home to their parents. OMG. The poop flew for a while. Now, at the reunions, no one talks about it. I agree, though, it's better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission. Hell, You only get one senior prom. Have fun.

"we are encouraging men to dress like men"
Living in Scotland, I find the above VERY INSULTING!
