You betcha' there are! Vince Evans, just to name one, does some amazing, amazing Scottish basket hilted broadswords.

Yeah, I think his start around... what? Four or five K? And worth every penny, if you're filthy, stinking loaded.

I note that AC has raised their prices slightly. Still a very good buy. Mine is the SC3 if you look at the link.

Yes. I've got the Cup & Ring basket hilt, and the acid etched hilt. Caught the latter on Ebay, if you can believe it.

I highly recommend Armour Class for a very nice but reasonably priced basket hilt. Mine is a late 17th c. hilt with browned basket. It took about four months from time of order to receipt and the cost was about $625. It is well worth the price. Kult of Athena is offering Armour Class swords (in stock) on their web site - I did not know that AC offered any kind of wholesale program and will check on that for Bold Blades as well.

As for the CS dirk, I agree that if you are going to remove the protective gease from the blade, and who isn't?, that you keep it oiled and store outside the sheath if you will not be using it for a long time. There is nothing wrong with the steel in the blade; it is carbon steel and carbon steel will rust. I also agree about the handle but what are you going to do about that? Unless you take it off and re-hilt it there is not much you can do.

Vince Evans and several other sword makers in the US and elsewhere turn out very high quality swords in various patterns but be prepared to pay a significant sum for them. They are worth it, but I don't have the budget for it.

Armour Class does some outstanding swords with period hilts. I've got one myself. Beautifully balanced, surprisingly light.
