This photoshoot was part of an advertising campaign a few years ago for TFCK, so it's not exactly new, it's actually Howie in the patchwork jacket, and yes the kilt pin is the trademark TFCK pin. There are many other pictures in this series, including some set in a pub, and also with some children as well. While I'm not entirely convinced by the pockets, I like the general feel that kilt wearing is a very normal thing, and can be done in an everyday way as well.

I believe it is called a "studied insouciance"!
It is the job-lot of steel toecap site boots that I can't help but focus on.
I actually have a 21st Century Kilt Jacket and Vest in a plain blue barathea with antiqued pewter buttons in the typical boxy cut shown in this photo and I have to say I do like it for smart day wear. It has a modern edge but I flatter myself that those who hold with tradition wouldn't set the hounds on me. Having said all of that I do prefer my trusty tweed and situations where the 21st Century Jacket is preferred are few and far between.

On second thoughts perhaps best not answer that!
I don't particularly enjoy the pockets, but I think Howie's tailoring is fantastic.
If we left off the pockets and gave these chaps sporrans would you find the look more appealing?

Yes, it is.

I wonder how these designs are picked to be the standard for the show ? wouldn't a Bard T kilt or a Newsome Kilt bring more money then these , I wonder if these people even know about the wonderfull designers on this forum.
It is kind of like these kilt designers are from a different side of kilting then the X marks the Scott side -as for me I will stick to the kilts we have on our side . all in fun

As to the jackets and waistcoats, here is a set from 21st Century that I acquired for next to nothing. I wore them to a Burns Supper in 2010, with Martin and Alex.
As you see, neither the jacket nor the waistcoat is really designed for use with a sporran. Don't get me wrong, they fit wonderfully, are well made and great to wear. But I have only worn them once and I can't see me wearing them again.
Regards
Chas

The weathered tartan Howie is wearing in the center is indeed Hunting Stewart Weathered. By the looks of it, I would guess Lochcarron's strome range. I've done kilts in that one, before. It is a very nice looking tartan.
I actually don't mind most of the outfits, save for the fact that I have never liked 21st century kilt's "kilt pockets." I just think a sporran looks so much better, and those cloth pockets spoil the look of the front of the kilt. But other than that, I like the kilt suits, even the tartan one!
One thing you can say about the photo - it's classic 21st Century Kilts!

I've a feeling that the show is all about tartan in all sorts of guises, and kilts in all sorts, you only have to look over the past years galleries to see the huge range of kilts that are shown, it's not simply about a particular style of tradtional kilting.
Howie has produced some great designs over the years, and has certainly given kilts a more modern look and appeal to many, while not everyone will like his work, he has certainly been very innovative and has garnered many new kilt wearers. His work is just one type of kilt attire, and as such it's not even very representive , but for me, as both a very traditional hand sewn kilt maker as well as a machine made contemporary maker, I applaud his work.
With the best will in the world there is a huge difference between excellent makers and innovation designers.

Yes it is indeed and I have one of them but not one of the kilts.
