Black Watch Economy Wool Review

i have been trumpeting the economy black watch for a couple of months and think it very good for the money. since then, i have been more willing to dish out the money for wool over other fabrics. i wear it often and have been debating whether to buy another.

Man that's a very tempting deal. The only thing that puts me off those Stillwaters is the fact that they ONLY come in 24" lengths which is just too long for me. Getting it hemmed might be an option of course. Good looking kilt though and great pics.

I always have to get things shortened or hemmed. The kilt was not difficult for my tailor to hem. I also added stabilizer, interfacing and tacked down the lining....

I have the same problem but hemming is not all that bad or diffacult if you know how to use a sewing machine or know some one who does. I have the Stillwater USMC Heavyweight and I love it. Like he said it ain't no 500 dollar tank but for the price you can afford as many as you want.

That's a fine looking kilt. I've been lurking around SWK for a while; even though I have a number of kilts already, I may just have to spring for a Black Watch kilt. Especially for knockaround purposes...

How deep are the pleats?

Have Stillwater's leather and nylon nightstalker sporrans - my favorite sporran. But, never been able to order since that 24" length is all they offer. I wear a 21 1/2 and despite creative suggestions on how to lop off the extra 2 1/2" just ain't gonna do it. Know they choose to cherry pick the common size and not worry about the rest of us - that's their business model and choice and respect that.

Maybe some day they'll reconsider and do like Utilikilts and offer a small range of lengths. Guessing if they ever brought in a load of 21 1/2" lengths they'd sell out fast since they'd be tapping the market of long denied short length kilt junkies....

2 inch pleats. i also prefer 22 inch drop over 24.

Got a PM from Jerry. Says they've offered custom lengths for 8 years....note at the bottom of the page says they'll do custom lengths. There is a "surcharge" which is not specified...? And an unStillwater-like wait of 1-3 months so guessing they do it at the factory.

Still, would be nice if they'd risk running a batch of shorter length kilts and see what happens. Of course, it ain't my risk....

I have been looking for quite a while and just pulled the trigger. I got the last 42" so I'm glad a didn't wait any longer. Now the jonesing begins but knowing all the positive feedback it won't last long. Jerry may have already used his transporter to pop it into my postoffice for delivery tomorrow.

That lovely smile is key to wearing the kilt confidently. And I love the Garden of the Gods! It's part of the same geologic formation that made Red Rocks Amphitheater, right?

I wouldnt swear to it but they seem to be the same type rock. Both are on the front range area so it would make sense they are close to the same rock and formations..

Yes, they are both from the same geologic formation which includes "The Devil's Backbone" just west of Loveland and the area around Lyons, all along the front range.
