I was gonna say...it really doesn't look too long to me...(what am I saying? why am I NOT suggesting that a woman wear a SHORTER skirt...getting old...)...

Anyway, you might consider keeping that one at that length and looking for another one that's shorter...maybe a bit extravagant but since you're thinking of wearing one for competition I wouldn't think that would be unreasonable.

Two thoughts. It fits you well as a skirt. I would keep it that way. Kilts don't generally stand that kind of alteration well. If it is pv then maybe the construction is simple and it could be shortened from the top. Does it have a hem at the bottom? Typically it would be selvage there. It could cost as much to adjust as to buy another, shorter athletic kilt. I think that you could do quite well with a mini kilt So my option #1 would be get another one properly fit for athletics and keep this one because it looks damn good. Option #2 would be seek someone to trade with for a shorter one in the same waist and hip measurements.

By the way, I have always thought that men's clothing on women is pretty good - look what jeans have done. Enjoy the swish. Play around with the options for a "purse" in front - sporrans are a great art form in themselves.

Good thinking Tulloch, thanks! The kilt does in fact have a hem at the bottom, but I agree that alteration from the hem would likely be difficult, expensive and probably unsatisfactory.
I've found an eBay listing for an 8-yard PV kilt in the same tartan, where I can specify the exact length I want for only £6.50 on top of the already reasonable price, so I'm going to go ahead and order myself a shorter 'throwing kilt' and keep this one as a reserve/pubbing/ceilidhing kilt!
Looking at the throwing kilt Alan H made for GGGP, and dropping a plumbline from hip to knee... let's see... I'm 5'6" tall with shortish legs... 16" looks as if it'll be about right. I want to wear the kilt a bit lower on my hips anyway, and that length will still leave the lads guessing as to the colour of my undies but won't get in the way when throwing.

And umm, when, as GGGP says, swish happens - I plan to be wearing x-ray-vision-proof lycra leggings under the kilt while throwing!

I have to second John. If you wear the kilt this way it isn't too long. It looks really elegant and lets the lads in the the dark, what's above those shapely calves.

Cultural differences... I dunno, drinking protein shakes isn't something I ever even considered before I started with this way of eating - low-carbing - and I still find it a bit weird myself to be honest, though ultra-convenient to replace fiddling around making a meal. On the other hand, a Full English Breakfast Shake could be an interesting challenge... mmm.... urrgh. No.

You look great in that. I'm all for short skirts but, I concur with what others have said...... I don't think that looks too long overall.
It's a great look. I think that as a woman, you have great latitude in pulling off whatever length you choose to wear it. Good for you!
