If you ever come out to Los Angeles, visit Seven Grand. It's a whiskey bar on the corners of 7th and Grand streets in downtown LA. Please check their link below, where you find their whiskey lists.
Cheers!

Okay, now I am generating my list of favorite whisky bars from various major cities (and minor) across the nation for future reference and planning of trips and potential out of town kilt nights. The SF NorCal kilt event was a grand success that was well attended and greatly appreciated by myself and my family at the beginning of our trip, the high point in many ways. Finishing the the week with the disappointment of the Ritz Carlton bar changing focus was definitely the down point of the trip. But at least now I will have more places to visit, more whisky bars to seek out and more whisky options to taste when I get there. Thanks to all for your support and contributions. If any other folks know of any other specific venues worthy of a whisky visit please chime in and I will add you to my list of prospective future travels.

If you ever come to Germany:
http://www.whiskymuseum.com I've not been there, but heard good things about it.
or http://www.villakonthor.de Same applies here, but kiltmonk was there several times, and was enthused.

As you are a fairly frequent visitor to Scotland Jeff, give the Tam o' Shanter a whirl next time you're in Dumfries. A fine selection of standard but uncommon bottlings. The draught beer is always first rate and Suzy and Craig are a smashin' couple. There's a great B&B in town too if you're looking for digs.

Twice in 4 years I guess qualifies me as a frequent visitor to Scotland I guess. Works for me, as I know I will be back a few more times in this life. Thanks for the suggestion John. Although I have not yet made it to Dumfries, I owe Alex a visit and know he is in the area so will probably go down that path one of these days. Always love a good pub and a cozy B&B.

Jeff: Sorry to read about your travail. My guess is that 9 years is about 3 epochs for most bars. Sounds like you found a great way to drown your sorrow, though. I haven't tried that Glenmo variant, but I'll keep my eye open for a bottle. Slainte!
John
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I feel your pain, there used to be a very enjoyable Scotch and cigar bar in the Peninsula Hotel in Chicago, until the smoking ban went into effect. We miss the place, and have never been able to find another quite like it.

If you're ever in Hong Kong, head down to Wanchai and you'll find The Canny Man Scottish Pub in the basement of the Wharney Guang Dong Hotel. They boast 180 single malts!
For people who aren't in the "neighbourhood," you can still peruse their list:

I was in Hong Kong for 4 nights and three days last summer for business, and was really bored out of my skull for the whole trip----both work and non-work time. I wish I had known about this place then as I could have used a convenient way to kill the time. Not likely to go back---way too long a flight for such a short trip. But may have to reconsider that in light of the new knowledge of a whisky bar to pass my time.

Wait until you're back up here, my old bean. We'll take you on the distillery tours, and maybe venture up to see BeloitPiper at his job as Whisky Master at Vom Fass.
