It's an under skirt for kilts to keep our body oils and sweat off of the kilt. Thus reducing the need to dryclean the wool kilts etc.
It also keeps the wool and other abrasive fabrics from sanding your little mans helmet. Especially under a sporran - Ouch!
Best made out of soft t-shirt type cotton.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

A woman would call it a half slip. Its like a slip within a kilt...open to the air...FREEDOM!!

If I'm gonna wear something for "protection" it's gonna be to protect my thighs from each other. Friction sucks.

Not sure what that has to do with this thread about underkilts protecting the kilt, but that would be Body Glide to protect thighs from each other.

The only way my thighs touch each other is when I stand with my heels touching. Genetic luck?

I like the idea of kilt liners, especially for adding longevity to the wool kilt. My immediate concern is for chafing though.

For walking/running yes, for lifting no.

And now back to your regularly scheduled topic....

Since I was off topic I will now post quasi on topic...

For those in the US for normal day wear you can grab some tall tshirts from Finish Line, I think they're 3 for $20 now. Decent quality tshirts that reach halfway down my thighs (XXL and XL)(I'm 6'7"), even when shrunk they cover my junk. I'm not a "man of substance" so they hang straight down, obviously they would lose length with a gut.

Not a great shirt to wear untucked but works great for kilts

Thanks for that link. Here in the high desert the extra shirt would be a bit much but I'm sure they work well in cooler areas. Freedom Kilts was selling long tail shirts for a while. Not sure they still do.

I've used some long tailed shirts before but find they tend to pull up as I move around, sit, etc. and before long they're a bit "too short" under the kilt.

Know there are other guys with long tail shirt experience, maybe its better if you don't have a beer gut like I do.

I'll go for the single layer on top too. I'm at the other end size wise. Normal smalls fit too loose and short. My longest well fitting shirts are the Volcom, BillaBong and American Apparel t-shirts. They still only go down "as far as possible"
Untucked they cover about half the sporran ( I use short hanger straps so the little guy isn't getting clubbed all the time ).
