Same here (finally back down to my normal weight, as I gained about 20 pounds during my first year of marriage - what can I say, my wife's a fantastic cook!).
I think you look great in all of your outfits, Colin!
Cheers,

I agree--very sharp. The height of the kilt hose is spot-on perfect--elongating the legs. And I agree with his analysis that the shorter jacket/waistcoat raises the visual center of balance, making for a taller appearance. The horsehair sporran works similar to tashes, though, I think. It creates a lower horizontal, which suggests shorter height--regardless of actual height. It might be a good option for a very tall person to make them appear more average. 5'10/155# very trim, quite tall. Some folks have all the luck.

Cheers,
Gentlemen you flatter me and everyone has probably seen these pics before
Kyle, seeing as you and I are about the same size, could you post a pic of yourself in your regulation doublet so we can test the tashes theory?

Sure!

And here is another photo of me with Cluny, yet I am wearing a coatee, not a doublet. The coatee has long since been sold off.

Cheers,

I'm finally able to look at this on a computer instead of my phone. Judging by a comparison between Kyle's pics and my own, tashes do not seem to affect my visual perception of the wearer's height. Granted, we're both around 5'10" and the OP was specifically in regards to a shorter fellow...
Also, on Kyle's regulation doublet, the tashes don't come all the way to the front, but rather have peaks at the closure point that might contribute to a lengthening effect on the waist. Someone recently posted an older style regulation doublet that had tashes all the way to the closure of the jacket, as do some Sheriffmuir doublets. I wonder if the placement of the tashes has any impact on what the OP was noticing?

Very interesting to see the same guy in various jackets!
To my eye, the Prince Charlie lengthens and slims your torso.
But for me, with a belly, a Prince Charlie makes me look fatter, I think.
