Toured the castle at Inverary last August. An impressive collection of weaponry from the period and beautiful grounds. My son was very impressed by the two rosettes of Brown Bess muskets (and bayonets) that were formed on the walls in the great hall. Each rosette has in excess of 50 mint condition muskets and bayonets array in concentric circles. The Duke had raised a regiment back in the 1700's and when the unit disbanded, the arms were placed in display. Maybe I can find a picture (so we know it really happened).

Here is a thread in which CMcG posted some photos of the armoury at Abbotsford House (Post 2) http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...an-dubh-62345/
In the fourth photo (at the bottom) there is a sporran in the glass case. Don't know if this is the one purported to thave been Rob Roys

Another image of the claimed Rob Roy sporran in Inverary Castle

And one of the claimed Rob Roy sporran and Sgian Dubh at Abbotsford House.

This is the sporran above the door frame in Harold's photograph.

Interesting how all the claimed ones have no resemblance to a "rob roy" style sporran. Does any one know when the modern Rob roy type came about?

I would venture to say from the movie Rob Roy staring Liam Neeson.

This is a "Rob Roy" from a 1938 catalogue!

This would be one of my early memories of 'Rob Roy', seen ready to jump the river at Peterculter near where I used to live

He has what I would guess is now called a Rob Roy sporran?
