I tie my neckties with the kilt so that the tip of the tie comes just a hair below the buckle, and if the tail is too long I just tuck it in the kilt. No one can tell, and it doesn't swing around behind the front part. If you are wearing a waistcoat and the tail isn't TOO long, no one will be able to tell because the waistcoat will cover up the bottom part of both the front and the tail.
