Kilted or not, let's not forget the importance of sun screen or cream. Irrespective of your hat choice.
Alternatively move to the UK . Its raining cats and dogs here.

I'm hearing that some skin cancers have increased since the invention of sunscreen. Sunscreens don't protect against all harmful rays but we don't know that and think we're protected. We also don't renew the sunscreens enough thinking we are protected. Ironic. Maybe some medical rabble are more up to date on this irony.
Have also recently begun wearing a wide brimmed replica WWI doughboy hat from Miller Hats. The front and back turndowns help with face and neck.

Ron I haven't heard that. If true it's a disgrace that we are being misled or misinformed.
Moving to the UK still sounds the best option then.

Yeah - we're all brown here, it's not sun - it's rust!

Dressing smartly can mean too things. Looking good or having sense of what to dress with.
I wear fedoras with a beating sun out there.

I love wide brimmed hats, always have. They keep the sun and the rain off equally well. Sometimes I want the back of my head free of a brim and that's when I wear a cap.

I'm not at games, but usually in the campground at music festivals, and I wear a Tilley, or an extra wide brim Tilley. Good for sun and for moderate rain. Looks fine to me.

I burn quite easily.
After spending years in the Forces and having to wear the most impractical of head-dress in all weathers (the British beret might look good, but it does nothing to protect you from rain OR shine) it's now nice to have the choice and finally look after my balding head and sticky-out ears with hats that I deem appropriate for hot days.

Alex is in X Marks Tartan, I'm wearing Bruce Hunting.

As I mentioned in another thread, I have taken to wearing a Tilley hat on sunny days.

Some time ago I took Jock Scot's advice and bought a comfortable panama hat specifically to wear with my daywear highland attire
(with my pal John at Henry Cowell state park on other's day)
As much as I love the traditional look of my balmoral bonnets, this is my "go to" hat for sunny/hot summer days
I think it looks fine and practical
Cheers
