I doubt I buy a tartan from him, but he is local top me. And he is very easy to reach.

I didn't have a problem getting to Bryce's site this evening. He used to be a regular contributor to XMarks a couple of years ago, by the way. A year or so ago I bought a dark khaki (that's pronounced car-key, don't you know?) from him. It was a bit more expensive than the ones he is advertising now. About 25 percent. Still dirt cheap, in other words. He was very, very prompt in his response to my order and in shipping.

As Matt says, Bryce is not a kiltmaker. I have no idea where he buys his products, but from the prices he quotes I suppose we can assume the cost of labour is extremely low. My experience was that the kilt needed two launderings to make it at least reasonably supple and wearable. The stitching was poor and I think the problem was the thread used. In the few weeks that I wore it I did some hand repair more often than I should have. My purpose in buying it, however, was for some pretty rough landscaping tasks and for that it served its purpose. The price of the product was less than the price of just one of the plants being planted.

Advice. A fifty-dollar kilt may be equated to a fifty-cent meal; it will certainly do the short-term job of satisfying a need, but in the longer term....

I got to the site alright Thistledown, but when I clicked on the FAQ or the About Us pages within the site I got the blank white pages. Being a bit cynical and suspicious, I suspect that following Matt's post they took down what they thought might be perceived as unflattering product origin information. No evidence of that whatsoever, again just my suspicious nature. I do agree, we typically get what we pay for. However good the prices are, it seems unfortunate that literally ever person here who has bought one has had to restitch it after a couple of wearings. I'm of the mind that the best kind guarantee is the one you never have to use.

For low cost kilts, I have had a good experience with our sponsor, buyakilt.com

All I can say is the kid who stitched can do a lot better tha my kid. I'm guessing that with the price and how many places I see online carrying the exact same kilt my guess is there sweat shop made. Just a wee bit of a guess.
