For us GOS (Gentlemen of Substance) we call 5 or 6 yards a casual kilt. 4 yarders we call a towel. Welcome to the forum from Southampton UK.

Here's a thought. You'd have to arrange with B&S beforehand, but you could order the kilt and an extra yard of the tartan it'll be made from, then get somebody to make you a vest/waistcoat from that extra yard.

Angstrom, first and foremost "Welcome to the Rabble".
Seems like I got here too late to influence your decision but that never stopped me from adding my two cents worth. You can see my B&S 5yd casual kilt on the B&S portion of the forum. My waist was 37" and hips 42" at the time and have since dropped an inch each. I sprung for the extra yard and I'm glad I did. I think the extra pleats just make the swish that much better. I wore the kilt to the Glengarry Highland Games on the friday when temperatures were pushing 40 C and honestly I was more comfortable than I was the year before in shorts. I chose Sir John A MacDonald tartan. What tartan did you decide on?
I'm just trying to be the person my dog thinks I am.

Thanks! If I like this one I'd be tempted by a MacLachlan tartan, which they only have in medium weight, and with a medium I would go for the extra yard.

I went with the Atlanta tartan--it has significance for my wife's family.
