Congratulations on your new kilt! It looks very nice. I have one in that tartan myself as my mother was a Smith.

The tartan has a really large sett. How did you have it pleated? (To the stripe, sett or "casual sett")

I ended up having mine pleated to the red stripe to give it a bit of contrast to the blue.

The kilt looks great! Did you end up pleating it to the line or the sett? This particular tartan looks quite nice when pleated to the red stripe.

    Well done,

    Well done,
Sorry, but you have me at a loss. I know nothing about setts and how kilts are pleated. I left it entirely in Brandon's hands at B & S. Here's a quick photo of the pleating.

To everyone else. It's nice to hear the compliments. At least I won't feel like a fool at my Daughter's wedding. You've given me some self-confidence. Thank You All!

What a nice looking tartan ... looks pleated to the sett (so the pleat side looks like the front apron side)

On the very bottom of the photo, is that one of those basting stitches holding the pleats together (the white thread near the very lower edge of the pleats)?

I was wondering about that. Yes, the pleats are stitched down along the bottom. Shouldn't they be loose?

Amend that...I just noticed the stitching was loose on the end. It all came right out. I told you I know just enough about this stuff to be dangerous.

I had to mention it in case you showed up wearing the kilt with that thread still holding the pleats back .... the pleats must have room to sway and be as impressive as they are meant to be

Thanks for pointing it out. I never would have noticed other than it felt awfully snug. I mentioned it to my Wife and she said she knew that. I guess she was just going to let me look like a dork. Well, more than usual anyway...

    I don't get any respect...
