I'm pretty sure for you, 1500 is starvation. The consensus is that starvation levels of caloric intake cause you to pack on fat and break down muscle - your body is saving up in case the famine lasts a really long time and strategizing: you need to just live long enough to get through it. You know your body; it's different for everyone - but add me to the list of voices saying you should reeeally be sure that's the right approach before you jump in.
A short fast might benefit you; if anything I find it lets my body reset itself and I am better able to make good food choices after the initial discomfort wears off. Long term though? ehhhmmmm... Caution.
Do they separate the master's classes from the whippersnappers in Scotland or do you all throw together?

1500 probably is starvation, but it's only for 4 weeks. I'm not planning on living on 1500 calories for the next year! Not to worry, team.
Last night was the last throws night before I take down the WOB and sheaf standards. Three of our guys who've been making it to a lot of practices recently, but haven't been able to get to a Games, set up and threw "for real" in five events with real marked trigs and so on, for marks. Braemar Stone - Open Stone - LWFD - Light hammer - WOB. Upshot, we've got one solid...middle-to-upper-end B class thrower and two guys who are solidly in the C's. Our Big Guy dropped O stone out at 37 feet. Not too shabby. On the other hand, he's got an issue with his left elbow and he has to go easy on hammers, so he's only in the high 60's. HIs LWFD is 46-48, and that's single-spin! WOB is 12. Very nice. Our C class guys are in there with respectable marks, though B. needs some work on Stones.
tonight I start breaking down the gear and hauling it home, but I'm leaving a caber out there for MacFhearchair to whomp on when she gets the urge this winter.

Yesterdays food:
Breakfast
1 cup oatmeal, .3 cup raisens, 1 cup nonfat milk - 1231 calories I don't remember it being that high, is something kookaburra here?
Lunch..
2 cups BBQ chicken, no topping, 1 Jarritos soda (100 cal ea.) 425
Dinner...
I have no clue, the Luminous Joan gave me a mess of salad which had everything plus the kitchen sink in it. Pretend that it's 800 calories.
1 cup nonfat milk 439
Random guess at the total is 2865, which seems AWFULLY high to me. Now that I'm back looking at my old log on www.everydayhealth.com I notice that last year when I did this I budgeted a daily intake of 2200 calories. Hm. Where'd I get that idea that I was going to take in 1500? REVISE.

As Al walked away from the trough,
Our good advice caused him to scoff.

Metabolic decay
Forced his Kreb's cycle to turn itself off.
Sorry--bad habit now. I'm doing it at home, too.
Really, your body is wonderfully adaptable. In this case, you'll hit your 4 weeks, start eating like a normal human again, and blow back up to where you are now--only with less muscle. I know you were a wrestler--me too. You're not hustling to make weight, you're looking to shed excess for the long haul. Please reconsider.
I think I'll call an intervention...
Alan, we're all here because we love you and can't stand by while you do this to yourself...
Okay. Up to you. I'll mind my own bidniss and say no more about it.
EDIT: Just saw your last post. Woohoo!

439 for a cup of nonfat milk? Did you sink some bacon in that cup?! Should be 90 to 100, right?

Yeah, no way milk has the same calories as a bottle of chardonnay.
Have you ever checked out sparkpeople.com?
They have a good food/fitness tracker.

FWIW. I am 55 years of age and currently 220lbs (which is 10 to 15 over desired weight). I need 2500 calories per day to maintain whatever weight I might be. Less than that and I lose; more than that and I gain. I am only mildly active (not a big sports/athletics guy).
I personally think you should hold off on making any significant diet changes until you know how your body wants to do it. Before arriving at the magic number of 2500 calories, I watched and counted every calorie and every gram of protein and carbohydrates -- compared against my weight taken first thing in the day and also my glucose levels. This is what works for me. A friend of mine, who is near the same age/weight/activity level, would "balloon" if he tried to match my diet (I have pictures to prove it ).
Guess what I'm saying is everyone's different. Good luck on your endeavours -- just be sure to start from an informed knowledge base of what is right for you.

I agree with both of you. Something ain't right, here. I do not remember my mornings being filled with 1200 calorie breakfasts, but hell if that's not what the calorie-counter told me. Gonna have to go back and check this thing.
The only real reason that I'm going with this website is that generally, I'm a pretty boring eater, and about 2/3rds of my regular foods are already in my personalized database.

1/2 cup is a serving of oatmeal.
1/4 cup of raisins is a serving.
Sprinkle cinnamon on it for taste. A LOT of cinnamon.
Salad dressing can be high in calories, too. Especially if you use a "real" serving of it. Cheese is high in cals as well.

**snarl** .... stupid calorie counter is dog slow with my network connection from home. I've entered in stuff 3x and it's not getting added to my journal. ()*&^#$ USELESS. This is pissing me off.
Breakfast is the same everyday: 1 cup dry oatmeal, cooked....1/3rd cup of raisens....1 cup nonfat milk. That is supposedly 893 calories.
Lunch was good, pretty paleo. Bottle of flavored tea, 100 cals. "salad" with about 2 cups of raw spinach, two decent sized slices of chicken breast, the equivalent of one whole marinated tomato...some tofu in there with the tomatos. That's it. Virtuous.
Dinner was out with friends at a local restaurant that specializes in "comfort food" and was a disaster. Starter of mac and cheese ( had about half a cup of it) then a burger and fries. I didn't eat half the burger bun. And a Guinness, for the vitamins.
I ate a bagel in the afternoon because someone gave it to be, and it was free. Bad.
Now, if the flippin' online journal would let me add the damn food... GRRRRR. this is what I remember from last year, it just takes for-EVER to log this stuff. I could probably do it faster, manually.
