    Trans-Atlantic Voyage

My wife and I recently returned from a Trans-Atlantic voyage on the Queen Mary 2. Actually it was two voyages as we went from Southampton to New York and a month later went from New York to Southampton. It was my dad’s 80th this year and we wanted to go over. We decided to go by ship rather than fly as my wife does not enjoy flying. After we got to New York, we drove the rest of the way to my hometown in Michigan. I have included photos so we can be sure it happened.

The first photo was taken the evening of the Black and White Ball (hence the white kilt hose and black garter flashes)

The next photos are of what I wore for other occasions during the voyage. The first one was for what was referred to as “semi-formal” for dress code purposes. The next one was for the Royal Ascot Ball. This ball was a strange event as the theme related to a daytime event, but the ball took place in the evening. Most went with black tie while a select few went with more typical Royal Ascot attire. I did button the button on the first one and straighten my tie on the second one before we left our state room.

As it happened, my 25th high school reunion was a couple of days after we got to my hometown. It was a rather casual event.

The last couple of photos were taken on the return voyage. The first was taken at the Captain’s Cocktail Party prior to the Black and White Ball. The other was taken at dinner prior to the Royal Ascot Ball.

The first crossing was by far the best as the Atlantic was much calmer than the return trip. We would definitely do it again.
