I made a quick and easy sporran belt buying the parts and Tandy. They have 1/2 inch leather strips that are fairly soft, 48 inches long and have enough body to hold up okay. Bought some buckles and about 20 min. later, had a simple sporran belt. The good part is that the leather is thick enough to support a dress sporran, but soft enough that the edges are not going to wear into the wool of my kilt. I can't find the specific straps on Tandy's website, but they had lots of them in my local store. They are in a plastic bag with a hanger card. Came in black and brown. Cost was under $5 and about a buck for the buckle.

*** Tandy. I did exactly the same thing when I needed a brown sporran belt fast, planning to buy something better later. That was 3 years ago, and I'm in no hurry to replace it today. It's holding up a lot better than I ever expected.

I did the Walmart search, and in the end didn't find anything that I felt comfortable with or fussing with. I highly recommend looking at the Rkilt site and pulling up the braided sporran strap. It is custom made, excellent leather, dressy, rolls on the kilt, doesn't cut into it and comes with quality swivel hardware. It is my go-to strap and I can't recommend it enough.

Great suggestion. There's a Tandy store not far from where my wife works. I had fun trying the home made garter ties so maybe this will be my next project. You guys may be getting me to take on a kilt project before I die at this rate.
