LOL. I was in a dry cleaner's once and asked if they cleaned kilts. When they asked "what's that?" I knew I wasn't taking mine there...
Of course, ever since a horror story I heard from a fellow dancer online who says that she took her kilt to be cleaned and they pressed the pleats out of it... no, don't go back and read that again; you got it right the first time and it's just too painful to think about twice. I've been thinking more and more that I may just like to try my hand at washing it myself in the bathtub (I have little faith in my ironing skills, but I could always take it to the cleaners just for the press, with firmly-basted pleats). I'm really hoping the story was made up. But I have more faith in another I heard where the buckles bled dye onto the kilt. The cleaners insisted it was already like that. They eventually agreed to try to get the stains out but I guess their methods were so vigorous that the fabric was pretty much ruined. I might just need to get out my wool wash. (are you supposed to remove the buckles? I've seen some people say they do but it sounds like a huge pain in the **** to me...)
I did see a guy at a Highland Games once with his on *sideways*. I try to tell myself it just slipped and he didn't notice.
