Too bad that the only photo I have of the rear of a MacKenzie mililtary kilt is one which was re-pressed very wrongly, ruining the pleats! Each pleat is supposed to have a white line running all the way down its edge

Not permanently spoilt, though.

If misted, ironed carefully to remove the wrong folds then basted and repressed it should be restored to how it ought to be. Wool is very resilient and will take a lot of reworking and moulding.

My thanks gentlemen, you appear to be correct in saying that it is Stewart Hunting modern. Now I just have to figure out how I can buy it. It is "only" $175.00 as is but I have just ordered a new kilt from Keltoi and so the funds are lower than low.
It will have to have 2 new straps and there are 2 small holes in the apron. It needs to go to the cleaners badly but other than that it is great. It is currently in a shop that sells some very strange "vintage" clothing and other items. A typical shop for where it is located in the Haight/Ashbury section of SF.

In response to a PM from OC Richard, not that he asked for this response, I am posting 2 pics of Stewart Hunting kilts. One is my 5yd pleated to the red stripe only. The other is the pipe band kilt that I am purchasing mentioned earlier in this thread pleated to both the red and the yellow stripe.
As you can see there certainly is little difference in the size of the exposed part of the pleats but the 5yd pleats are 3 1/2 inches deep whereas the 8yd are much less deep.

As others have said - Hunting Stewart. It is pleated as worn by The Canadian Scottish Regiment, which is to the alternating red and yellow stripe. OC Richard can let you know what other Canadian regiments do the same. Maybe the Caledonia Pipe Band followed suit.
