It's a relatively small town and devastatingly beautiful. Go in the best weather you can find, and then get out and walk. You'll love it!

Thanks. I was there last August for my first visit. It was a beautiful day - similar to our Austin winters. We will be going in 3 weeks and I am hoping for good weather. If he decides to go there, it will be an exciting adventure for him and a chance for my wife and I to make more trips to Scotland.

And if the weather is classicly Scottish, it's a good excuse to buy a couple of Inverness-style raincapes.

I should point out that many American students spent at least a year there (it is very US friendly) and some do all of their degree there, including a Facebook friend of mine who is standing for Union President for the next Academic year. The Students Union is being refurbished and modernised also.
