Well.... I'm afraid I simply feel I have go the full nine yards when kilted.
The Sporran is a must with a kilt, in my opinion. Check out eBay! There are some pretty decent deals to be found on kilt-wear in general there.
I also always wear Kilt-Hose, with Flashes, and a Sgian Dubh.
Why wear all this? Probably just because I've accumulated all the stuff and I can!

    1. Kilt hose

I too let the weather dictate what I wear especially with the crazy southern
humidity. If I am traveling to one of the local highland games I usually
take them with me just in case the urge hits me. The old Boy Scout motto of
being prepared still haunts me to this day. (On a side note, I was extremely thankful
to have my kilt hose on several occasions. Once at the Loch Norman games, it was
38 degrees and a cold rain all day in the middle of April. I could not get warm enough
that day. If had not had my flask full of single malt I think I would have had Hypothermia.)
On hot summer days I may wear my Tevas or Birkenstocks.

    2. Sporran

95 % of the time I wear one.

    3. Flashes (with hose)

If I’m wearing my Kilt hose I wear flashes.

    4. Sgian Dubh

It is always in my Scottish attire some where even if I’m not wearing Kilt hose.

    I agree about being prepared.
In Tasmania, the weather can change quickly when walking in the Highlands, I have been glad to have taken both a warm and a light kilt on hikes so I can make the right decision just before the hike.

I wear it all! I change out shirt styles, though. Knit collar, button down (with and without tie), and ghillie broughes. I haven't really tried boots. I have a pair of grey Timberland hiking shoes that I think would go well, but I always think that they look a little geeky with hose. I am tempeted to get a pair of combat boots to try.

    Cheers,
    Allen

    Allen...

Try some 8-eyelet Doc Martens boots with a pair of dark colored kilt hose. Works very nicely.

Just make one! Someone on this board or Kiltmen.com must have some good sporran making instructions for a cash strapped young kilt wearer.

I have the quick fix sporran recipe. Go to the thrift store and find a cheap ladies handbag. You'd be surprised how much some of them resemble sporrans. I have quite a sharp looking handbag convert sporran around here somewhere. No pics tho. One day I swear I'll invest in a digital camera.

Anyway, at same thrift store you may even be able to find a cheap 3/4" or 1" wide belt to make your straps out of. Now all you need is a chain. Dollar tree dog chain baby!!! With a little elbow grease and the basic knowledge of how a sporran is pieced together, you're all set, and probably less than 10 bucks out.
