When wearing diced hose tops with spats, is there an undersock that you wear, something like a baseball sanitary sock worn under stirrups? It's basically a thin sock that you wear under the decorative sock.

Back in the 1970s and early 1980s I played in a couple of pipe bands that wore hose tops and spats, diced hose tops in one case and tartan in the other. We just wore a regular sock on our foot and pulled the hose tops over them.

I love those decorative hosetops/cuffs!
They solve a couple issues I have with wearing fancy shooting socks with the kilt 1) I tend to wear out socks very quickly and 2) often the turnovers aren't where they ought to be, to fit me.
The only sort I have is the pipe band ones from the 1990s, when all the pipe bands were wearing the stark white "popcorn top" or "bobble top" hose. It was common to buy the thick bobble/popcorn cuff portion seperately and wear it over plain cheap white hose.

I don't yet own, (nor have I made), diced/Argyle hose. They are really expensive and will be a lot of work. At the same time I like the look. I have a pair of Argyle hose tops that I like very much and they go down into my hiking boots. They will never wear out. I wear them over ordinary hiking boot socks. Great alternative to expensive hose that I would wear out too quickly.
