There are differences of course in the actual colour or size of sett , and sometimes in the feel, or hand of the cloth ,but any of the major weavers will produce a good quality cloth which should make a good kilt so it's not really anything to worry about. Each kiltmaker has preferences between different mills, sometimes it's just what we are used to, I'm very fond of Dalgleish, Lochcarron, or Marton Mills because I deal with them a lot but I wouldn't hesitate to use Hoise of Edgar or Strathmore is I needed a tartan that they did.

Since my name was brought up I thought I would add a small caution here.

While some of the best kiltmakers in the world are in N. America, it will not be the making of the kilt that you need to worry about, but the shipping costs to you in Singapore.

The last time I shipped a kilt to Singapore I offered the customer his choice of shipping methods.

Ground shipping was the cheapest but would take, literally, months to arrive.
Air shipping was over $100.00 us dollars. (closer to $200.00 if the truth be told)
Express shipping would have cost more than the kilt.

Please take this added cost into consideration when making your choice.

Good point Steve, and you might have import duty on top of postage which will be paid by you most likely weeks after you receive it.

If I were buying a new 8 yard knife pleated kilt I'd be looking at either USA Kilt or Keltoi. If I was looking for a kilt with lesser yardage, I'd put New House Highland in the mix. Just my two cents worth.

A top kiltmaker from Europe might be cheaper for you with regards to shipping. I HEARTILY recommend Paul Henry.

Well said, Dale. I couldn't agree more. I would highly recommend our own, Barb Tewksbury too.

I've made several kilts for a customer in Australia, and I've sent the kilts from the US via Priority Mail International. Shipping time was pretty decent. I never paid more than $65. Even though US postal rates just went up (as of Jan 27), the cost is still under $70 to Singapore, even for Express Mail International (I just checked on the USPS web site). So, at least from the US, postage isn't really a huge issue.
