I'm just trying to be the person my dog thinks I am.

Nice bit of knitting. Sadly, however, Fair Isle tank tops have been the realm of the "nerd" for many years now.

Just don't wear a Fair Isle past December:

Honestly, I don't buy that idea at all, just threw the link in for giggles.
I think Matt's jumper looks absolutely smashing. In fact, it reminded me that I might still have a crew-neck long sleeved one. . .
. . .Yup, it's there. Got it from Eddie Bauer, I think sometime in the '80s, and it's still in "like new" condition. I just checked the inside again and it does seem to be made in proper Fair Isle fashion, and it's Shetland wool. I think the colors on this one would go particularly well with my Douglas Weathered kilt.

The last time I looked at a calendar, "winter" only started in late December, and ran through late March. If the author meant they look best in December, he should have said December, not "in the winter."

Well, I am sure people think some pretty stupid things about men wearing kilts, too, but I have never let that stop me from looking good, and feeling good while doing so!

(And maybe only a nerd appreciates the intent, the effort, and the labor that went in to creating something that nice. Count me among them.)

Indeed and you never know, maybe the fashion will return one day. The main thing is that you feel good about wearing it. Not sure that I would equate it with kilt-wearing however.

I find it beautiful. Way to wear it with pride.
May I ask for details on the hose?

Love it, Matt! I love all of the different patterns happening...very smart, and the fact that is was made by your lovely wife is even better. Well done.

Just got in from sea and logged on again. Absolutely amazing. Fine work in the knitting. Enjoy it in good health for a long time.
Also, the ensemble in the second photo just haunts me. It looks as though you colourized a 19th Cent photo. Been in the museum field too long? History absorbing you into its own? Not a bad thing mind you.
