The goat hair is on the hide so no glueing was necessary. I just cut the hide to size and sewed it to the black leather back piece. I did use some adhesive spray to hold the back leather to the brass back piece before sewing. All else was either sewn or held in place by retaining screws.

Another fine job Bluecelt. I well remember your first one and how amazed I was at your ingenuity of sourcing the materials. For those who don't remember or are relatively new to the forum, here is a link to the old thread.

Ah! you remember my last project. I usually will find what I need, some how. I have the other half of the lamp base so I'd like to make a brass day wear sporran somewhat like a MOD but with the rolled edge. I've got few more ideas brewing.

this is the base. after transfering the profile, I cut it with a jig saw with a sheet metal blade and cut the roll with a dremel cut off wheel.

I ground the rough cut with a dremel sanding drum bit and cut 1-1/2" long hinges from the 1/4" x 1/2" bar. I rounded the outside to match the ID of the roll on the base and tapped 1/4-20 holes. I used a threaded rod and nuts to align and hold the bars in position for soldering. This worked great!!

here's the hinges soldered in. the back plate and tabs need to be long enough to span the distance between the hinges and when bent up cover the tapped holes. I suggest a making cardboard template to get the measurements right. When I had that I drilled the through holes in the tabs.

here's the brass complete. the drilled holes on the edge are for sewing the leather cover. I also soldered #8 brass flathead screws inside to fasten the leather and hide to the front inside of the cantle.

I drilled a hole in the top and took a brass recess washer (not sure of the name) and a thin wall brass tube I found in an art supply store to make the spring latch. I opened the hole in the washer to slide the tube through and the flaired the top of the tube. On the inside I soldered it to the base The tube ID was just big enough to slide a 1/4-20 rod freely but kept it from wobbling.

that's about it. I have a few more photo's I can post later. Hope this explains it.

Another nice thing about the brass is it can be engraved and silver plated which would really make it look vintage.
