That's how it is for me too, Blu. I have never owned a bum-bag!

Thank you all for the suggestions.

I've spent the past day or so wandering the net looking at all kinds of bum bags/fanny packs and various belt pouches. I found a few old ammo pouches on Ebay that I think could be a sporran with a little bit of work. But I think I'm going to have to take another look around for an actual sporran. They do seem to fit the kilt imagethe best. Besides if I get a simple one I can wear it on my belt casually and then just shift it around to the front for more dress up occasions.

Ok, now the tricky part. Where can I find a relitively inexpensive basic black leather sporran, no tassels and definately without fur. It seems that as soon as I find one that I like the price is a bit prohibitive. Am I asking for so much? Hoping for a quality product at a not so expensive price?

Have you tried your local military surplus store for old ammo bags? I had the same idea about using old ammo bag for sporran.

I think Blu is taking the mickey, leather is fine for me!!

I love carrying essential stuff around with me and from the very start i thought a sporran was a practical accessory, better than pocket in trousers by far.

In my leather pouch I carry a handheld computer, my reading glasses, money, business and credit cards, pen and notepaper and swiss army knife. It all packs into a nice tidy pouch, so when I leave the house all I have to think about is grabbing this bag, strapping it around my kilt and off I go.

Now...if I could fit a digital camera in there.....

It's the ultimate Time management tool!

Graham- I know what you mean about having the essentials all in one place. Back in the military I had a Victorinox multi-plier in its own pouch, then right next to that I had a canvas belt pouch that I think was designed for paramedics, I had wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and a notepad and pens all in one shot. Of course my belt weighed about ten pounds with all of that, but I loved it. I had almost every emergency covered as soon as I put on my belt.

I found some decent looking sporrns at J Byous website, one with a sort of chain/pin lock that stood out. If I could get something that had the attachments for both belt and/or sporran chain on the back I would be happy.

Also..I prefer straps on sporrans to chains by far. If you have no belt on it's easier to clip a knife pouch/cell phone etc to a strap than chain.

Graham, not to mention the chain sporran straps put alot of extra wear on the kilt compared to a leather strap.
