You got good advice a bit back; wear above the waist what you'd be wearing were you not wearing a kilt, and you'll fit in well.
***, Father Bill!
Thumbs up.
I would add that I never wear a jacket in the summer even when wearing a tie. It gets too hot. A waistcoat is even a stretch sometimes. Yes, I know that Jock or one of the other good ol' boys from the Highlands is going to pelt me with whatever's handy on that one but they don't have 100* weather in the summertime.

Leave the jacket in your car ... You most likely will be too hot to be honest. Southern Ontario has too much humidity to be wearing a jacket in the summer months. Just my honest opinion.

Spend some time at the festival looking at the people. You will see a large selection of clothes. Some would even be a costume at a Ren Faire, some just look strange, some are nice but out of place for the time and place and some just look good. Take some discrete pictures and built your clothing list from these.
For me one out of place outfit at a recent festival I attended was a PC jacket. On the PC jacket were military medals and an Aide De Camp shoulder cord. A very nice outfit for an evening affair, but it seemed out of place to me in the middle of the afternoon at a festival. But, he may have had an official function where this was the proper wear, it was his choice and his right.
I do not worry about what other people think. I can not control their thoughts and they, unless they know me, can not judge my actions. I have an Argyle jacket that many would laugh at. I had it made on the short side, closer to a mess jacket. After over 30 years in a required suit jacket I hate sitting on jacket tail. I really find the restriction, especially when driving, uncomfortable. My choice, my reason and if others want to think bad of me so be it. I believe in not judging unless I want to be judged.

Well alright, I don't know your weather, but I imagine that it is going to be at least warm? Just occasionally it verges on being warm in Scotland too and on those occasions shirt sleeves, with or without a tie are perfectly acceptable for informal gatherings AND if its a tad cool in the evening, or early in the day, for example, a pullover(sweater) can get you by perfectly. In fact, a pullover in these rather more casual times, is a very versitile piece of kit to have around with kilt attire and will get you by, even at quite smart affairs.

You will be fine with this combo. I've seen a number of folk at Fergus dressed this way.
Bring rain gear! We always seem to get a bit of rain over the weekend.... Wellies too ;)

I am impressed that the organisers have been able to lay on Scottish weather for the show too!

Caithness said they had a few days like that available, so we had them ship those over.

I agree. Shirt sleeves are always my choice for warmer weather (see below), but I will always have a jacket or pullover nearby just in case. As Jock said, it's perfectly acceptable to wear your shirt with or without a tie for informal gatherings. I have done both in warmer weather, and sometimes have even rolled up my shirt sleeves. As members of the rabble have pointed out, the most important thing is that you are comfortable and relaxed.

Cheers,

This is pretty good advice for Fergus. You will look overdressed in a jacket and you will be overheated. Don't see very many Gillie shirts, but it's a matter of taste. Most folks aren't kilted, as you might expect, and many that are are in competing pipe bands. The rest of us wear our kilts and dress for the weather. Golf umbrella's are really handy - either for rain or sitting in the hot sun.

Do you have evidence of that, Sir? I grew up in the lowlands and only knew the term "warm" from books I read
I agree that it will be too hot and humid for a jacket in Ontario. You get the benefit of a cool lower half from wearing your kilt, don't spoil that by baking in your top half. Oh, and have fun!
