Is that a real "Turtle" buckle?
I made a kilted skirt from Weathered Ulster tartan which is very brown and leather colored.
Being the cowgirl that I am I made longer three layered fringe on the apron and am currently shopping for just the right gold or brass colored fancy headstall buckles to use for closure.

I wear my Handyman buckle. Works well, and it is solid brass.

Yep, I wear an Olympia Beer Belt buckle. Represent where you are from.
I don't always wear a kilt, but when I do, I've made it myself.

I'm on the hunt for a good buckle, myself. Right now I have a very plain buckle. On my belt that I made myself (2"). I plan on a 3" kilt belt next.
I would wear that buckle if I were in your shoes. It has flair and individuality are we not all pretty stand-out already with our swinging pleats?

I'm not big on wearing a belt with the kilt in general. As recently as the 1940s the belts worn with kilts were still being referred to as "dirk belts" and they were usually worn to support a dirk, but not otherwise. (No such thing as a "kilt belt", traditionally.)
I also think that 2" belts look too narrow with a kilt. The traditional Dirk Belts were 3" wide.
But what the hey! It's a family heirloom so why not?

I am, in a general sense, a fan of belts. From an aesthetic point of view I like the way they divide up the clothes one is wearing. While it may not be strictly traditional, it does not look bad. I also feel that the buckle one choose displays a bit of individuality about the wearer. Sure, it may be a bit of tinsel, but that never hurt anyone.

Plus one, Fox.
I do not see a belt as something that I always wear (NEVER with a waistcoat is my own preference), when wearing a casual shirt I wear a casual belt.
I have yet to attend a formal event kilted but would acquire the appropriate items beforehand.
A 2" belt is not traditional, I believe, but I see no problem with it in an informal setting, although I am fully aware that a 3" belt is generally preferred. I do intend to get one of these as well.

I use a Hellboy Department of Paranormal Defense and Research buckle for my daily wear on a 1.5" belt. I find the thinner belt more comfy when sitting.
