Where do you get the Ray skins? and what is a good price?

I read somewhere, that Rays are endangered. Not sure if it's true. Might always be a different kind of Ray...

It depends on what size you need. Tandy has them, but the width isn't very good- at best 6" across (useable).
Like almost everything in leather and fur, price is based on both quality and market availability.
You can get a fair-to-decent one from Tandy from $20, but a good sized one (like you'd need for doing a larger soft sporran) can run quite a bit more ($60 - with really large ones bringing +$150), especially if
the 'star' or 'eye' is particularly nice.

Manta and Mobula rays are becoming endangered due to their use in Chinese medicine.
The skins we're discussing are of a common variety.

By the way, in the last episode of Kermode and Mayo's film review they asked Guillermo del Toro if one of his next projects would be an adaptation of a Lovecraft book. He didn't give a straight answer so it is possible.

Del Toro has been trying to make Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" for many years. When "Prometheus" came out Del Toro said that the storyline was too close to AtMoM for him to continue on the project, but "Pacific Rim" seems to have
given him the energy to at least consider another attempt.
My great worry is that the studio will insist on a happy ending, lots of 'character' building, (and most dreadful, if true) is the rumour that Tom Cruise was originally attached to the project.
Lovecraft's works just don't translate that well to film, or at least Hollywood's idea of film. They are too dark, no redemption/feel-good-ending, and the greatest horrors are only hinted at.
The HP Lovecraft Society has done great work on Call of C'thulhu (silent) and Whisperer in the Darkness ( (B&W), but these are indie films and so don't have to answer to the bean-counters in
Hollywood. I'd heard a vague rumour that they are slowly working on "Shadow Over Innsmouth", but it might just have been someone's wishful thinking.
Here's a lighthearted little Lovecraftian skit from Burnistoun to tide us over-

I'm planning to use one of the inexpensive Tandy rays, hence my scheme for an overlay. Allows me to piece the width needed -- at least, that's the concept, no proof yet!
Great skit BTW, thanks for starting my Monday with unimaginable horrors!
