I had talked to Ann a few times at games in years past. While she was a wonderful lady, it was those discussions that led me to believe I would never own a kilt. Too much $. Then when I got the job in Catskill 8 years ago I went to look her up, thinking maybe I could do this now, but she had literally just retired.
It seems there are plenty of hand sewn kiltmakers around who learned the trade from Ann. There's one in Highland near Poughkeepsie, and another (Bonnie Heather Greene, in Mahopac) out in the country in eastern Putnam County I think. Plus it seems to me Ann's daughter is also making kilts. I think she's in Rochester.
If I can swing it maybe in the next year, I'd like to get a hand sewn kilt in ancient Campbell, like the PV one I got from USA Kilts. I'd like to get one in Wallace too, as my paternal grandmother, my only full blooded Scot grandparent, had a Campbell for a dad, and a Wallace for a mom. We'll see how it goes.
